On the basement level is the main atrium level with two curved staircases, a large assortment of plants, and two koi ponds. The floor is brick and gravel. Through the glass doors is a large rec room with a full bar, exercise room, and plenty of room for entertaining. Through the door behind the bar is a future wine storage area (when I finish it) and I will place a door going to the unfinished cellar, which has cinderblock walls and support pillars for the house. On the right side of the house is the 4 car garage. Back up stairs is the stairwell, which is a prominent feature in the house, it features a wall of windows spanning almost the entire height of the house. Upstairs are 5 bedrooms, each with access to a 2nd story terrace, a small den area, the library loft, and a small office. The two terraces on the right side of the house have stairs going up to the third level.
Question by bisous148: I’m painting my room soon–ideas?
I am painting my room very soon; I may start the process as soon as Wednesday (I have a few days to choose a color scheme, though; I hear it starts with a bunch of sanding and spackling and primer). I don’t know what kind of color scheme I want. Here are a few ideas I had:
–white with black trim (or another high-contrast combination–ideas?), and I would paint sheet music on the walls (I am a composer, so it seems only natural). Maybe there would be a mural on one of the slanted ceilings (my room is in the attic), which I will decide later.
–a scheme to match my comforter (which will be different, depending on the bed I use, but if I use the comforter I plan to, that would mean wine-red or orange walls with tan/khaki trim)
–burgundy or royal purple with gold trim
–not sure of the appropriate colors, but a theatre theme (the important detail, then, would be making red velvet curtains with gold fringe; what color should the room be with that, and what other details could I add?)
–not sure of much of anything with this, but something to evoke a very traditional, sophisticated mood (either 19th century France, or an English tea room)
What do you think?
By the way, I’m 20, and in college (but I live on-campus and plan to stay there as long as possible); I want to make my room a sort of escape for me. I’ve never really liked being in my room since I moved into this house, and especially after the house caught fire while I was in college (thus turning the room into a haphazard storage facility), I have taken to sleeping on the living room couch. I want to make my room somewhere I can look forward to being.
Oh, and the floor is currently hardwood (don’t know what exactly, but it’s a medium-dark shade). Should I keep it, should I cover it with a mock-hardwood laminate (if so, what color?), or should I carpet it (if so, what color?)
I have ideas, don’t tell me places to get them. I’m looking for minds to help me flesh out my ideas.
And I’m not funky. Sorry.
Strawberry Shortcake: Whatever that is, it’s not champagne, and unless I keep the queen-size bed (which I hope I don’t have to), I already have a comforter that I will use. But the color complements the existing floor well. I could use that shade to be a theatre, or a somewhat lighter shade to be a tea room.
yowza: That tool really seems like fun! And it will probably help avoid the mistakes my parents have made with colors…
