How long should wine sit upright after you bottle it before you lay it on it’s side on the wine rack?

Question by van: How long should wine sit upright after you bottle it before you lay it on it’s side on the wine rack?
I bottle 10 gallons today and want it off my counters..
I don’t have any sediment in the wine. It is crystal clear. I usually leave it sitting upright for a few days but wondered if that long was necessary.

I find that after about 5-7 days the corks have expanded enough that you can seal the necks (shrink wraps), label the bottles and lay them down. The odd bottle may still seap a bit but not enough to be a problem.

You should lay bottles down with the label up. If you always handle and pour the bottles carefully with the label in the up position any sediment will remain on the non-label side of the bottle and will be trapped by the shoulder of the bottle.

    Cheers.
