i ran a small wruoght iron shop, made railing for steps, security bars, fences, gates, you name it,wrought iron is softer than mild carbon.depending on how its rolled, cold or hot.

  • murrmac:

bit of a fudged explanation of “wrought iron ” in this video.

The fact that it is formed into scrolls and other shapes doesn’t make it “wrought iron”.

wrought iron is the name of a base material, just as “mild steel”, “tool steel” and “cast iron” are the names of base materials. There is very little wrought iron produced in the world today, all the fancy gates and railings you see are made out of mild steel, not wrought iron.
